World Book Day

This week we had World Book Day. This meant on Monday - Thursday we sat on beanbags, and read books to the Preschoolers and Year 1's, but on Friday, we dressed up as our favourite book characters.

Here are some examples of what girls dressed up as:
Claudia = Ramona from Ramona and Beezus.
Rebecca = Peter Pan from Peter Pan
Charlotte = Mildred from the West Witch
Xanthe M = Annabel from Percy Jackson
Sophie H = Lion from The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe
Mia = Alberta from The awful Auntie

We raised money by giving gold coin donations and old books. The amount of money we raised was over $190 and 75 books.

Performing Arts

About Performing Arts 

In Performing Arts we've been learning a style of dance called folk dance. We are learning the Virginia Reel and Durham Reel from England. They do the dance anywhere. Here is a little video.

Exercises

We have exercises to warm up our body, so we don't hurt ourself. Our exercises are the ending of a word like [ing] for an example [creeping] but we have to have ideas 'out of the box'.

Dancing

When we dance we start by ourself, but after, when we have chosen what we are going to do for the dance, we go into pairs and tell each other our ideas for the dance. Then we go as a pair into a group of four and do the same thing again and again.

Positions

We all have our 'do' and 'do nots' when we stand. We do not stand side by side when we are dancing because it is very hard to see each other in a line.

On Thursday each week, almost every child from Years 5-8 represents Selwyn House School by playing either hockey or netball. We all come in our full PE gear every Thursday. We have an early lunch and then we go to our games. For hockey, we all get on a bus and go to Nunweck Park. For netball, we travel on a bus to Hagley Park. Then we play our games for about 45 minutes. These were our scores this week ...

14 - 1 Netball Pink, Win
5 - 2   Netball Red, Win
17 - 0 Netball Purple, Loss

Cross Country!!!

On Tuesday the 17th of May the year 3-8's had their Cross Country. It was held at Fendalton Park. The year 3's and 4's did 1 k, the year 5's and 6's did 2 k's and the year 7's and 8's did 3 k's. It was a very exciting day, everyone tried their best but sadly some people where injured and could not participate. It was a HUGE way for some people but most of all it was FUN! Lots of people where really encouraging especially our teacher, Mrs Langley. Before the races she made sure we were all ok and ready to try our best. Everyone came out of the race as a winner and most people had smiles. Congratulations to everyone that competed especially those who are going to zones soon.

4CD’S Holidays

4CD Had really awesome holidays here are some examples...

Leilah - I Liked going to the SPCA with Holiday program.

Tegan -  I enjoyed having my cousin Matthew staying with me. We bounced on the trampoline. And I spent time with my other cousins Cooper and Taylor too.

Zoe Cookson - The water slides in Hanmer Springs.

Xanthe Pearce - having a sleepover with 3 people and having my birthday.

Everyone had a great holiday and went to really cool places like Hanmer Springs and having their birthdays at home with their families.

On my holiday it was a really exciting holiday. I went to 3 places Brisbane (Australia), Auckland and Dunedin. 
First I went to Brisbane with my mum, we left on Wednesday.

When we were there I…

After that we went to Auckland

• Mum and I went to Cats it was really cool and it was really loud there was a lot of booming.
